|
|
그 어느 누구도 아닌 나만이 날 위로해 / It's okay to shed the tears / But don't you tear yourself
|
RM is using a wordplay as he almost pronounces “it’s ok” like “익숙해” (iksukhae), which means “get used to”.
He also plays with the two meanings of “tear”: create salty drops of water, crying, and also to rip apart; a wordplay that has appeared in previous BTS' works, such as “Outro: Tear”.
Therefore, the lyrics:
Only I could console myself, not anybody else
It’s okay to shed the tears
But don’t you tear yourself
Will become:
Only I could console myself, not anybody else
Get used to shed the tears
But don’t you hurt yourself
Hence, the meaning would change into: it’s fine to get used to crying as it relieves pain and stress. Most importantly, it’s self-soothing, so it might prevent you from hurting yourself and crying is much better than that.
Only ourselves can perform this action and get consolation from it. Thus, we shouldn’t be ashamed of crying alone.

|
살다 보면 B를 받을 수도 있어 / 그래 야 너도 B를 받을 수가 있어 / 몇 날 며칠이 비만 내릴 수도 있어
|
In Asian societies, especially East-Asian ones like South Korea, students are expected to perform well in school, getting perfect scores, or A’s in South Korea. Parents sacrifice a lot for their kids by giving them a good education, which means higher chances of getting into top universities and getting good jobs. Students themselves start to think alike because of all the pressure from the people around them.
RM speaks from his perspective of a student with outstanding marks. He was top 1.3% nationally in certain subjects. When you are at the top, failing, in this case getting a B, is more dramatic since you somehow met the expectations but then fell below them.
Expectations are never identical to reality. In life, certain things happen, and you have no other choice than accepting it, just like the rain, 비 pronounced “bi” like the letter B.
